• Aberdeen company invests £1m in renewables division

• Awarded major contract by award-winning hydrogen refuelling experts

• New division set to increase company workforce by 50%

Aberdeen-headquartered TIS Manufacturing is in the midst of a period of significant growth, as it launches its renewables division from a new manufacturing facility.

The company, which specialises in the design, manufacture, service, sale and rental of well intervention and control equipment for the global energy industry has invested £1million in the new division, which will create approximately 20 jobs in the city.

The catalyst to establish a renewables service came from prototype work and subsequent 8-figure manufacturing contract award, which will see TIS manufacture mobile hydrogen refuelling stations on behalf of award-winning engineering firm, NanoSUN.

Primary manufacturing partner and producer of NanoSUN’s Pioneer hydrogen refuelling system, TIS views this project as an opportunity to illustrate the transferable nature of its services, from oil and gas to the renewable sector.

Drew Roberston, TIS Business Development Manager explains: “With this landmark contract award, our 21-year track record in the production of trailblazing equipment for complex applications within the oil and gas industry has proven itself to be highly relevant and easily transferred to the ongoing energy transition.

With road travel accounting for around three quarters of global transport emissions, hydrogen will play of key role in the decarbonising of commercial transport applications; in particular the hard to decarbonise sectors of maritime, aviation and road. We are immensely proud to be playing a part in this critical journey, which provides the continued confidence to invest both in Aberdeen and the vast array of transferable skills available within the area.”

Dean O’Connor, CEO of NanoSUN adds: “NanoSUN’s Pioneer Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station represents the connective tissue between producers of hydrogen and operators of hydrogen fleets. It slashes the cost and the time needed to deploy refuelling infrastructure and is pivotal to accelerating the roll out of hydrogen vehicle fleets.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with TIS Manufacturing, whose capability and experience in the design and manufacture of hazardous area equipment will help us to rapidly scale manufacturing of Pioneer Stations, to support our customers in meeting the demands of the Energy Transition across the UK and Europe.”

Founded in 2002, TIS Manufacturing is a specialist in the design, manufacture, service, sale and rental of well intervention and control equipment for the energy industry. It works closely with its customers to produce pioneering equipment for complex applications and provides industry-leading knowledge and expertise to confidently certify equipment to the most challenging industry codes.

TIS Manufacturing Renewables was launched in early 2023, transferring the company’s comprehensive experience across the international oil and gas industry to the renewable energy sector, by providing bespoke solutions to suit the requirements of the Energy Transition.

Founded in 2017, NanoSUN is a world leading, award-winning, engineering company focused on the development, manufacture and commercialisation of mobile hydrogen refuelling solutions for use within the Transportation and Mobility sectors. We aim to accelerate hydrogen use with our innovative technologies by bridging the gap between the hydrogen supply industry and the needs of end users for convenient, low cost, simple-to-use and safe fuelling systems.

Our core focus is to assist hard to abate industries in their transition to sustainable hydrogen energy. We do this by providing mobile hydrogen refuelling stations for heavy-duty vehicles and equipment; delivering a reliable refuelling infrastructure for early users to test and adopt hydrogen as a zero-emission fuel.
